Overview of Monel Alloy R-405

Other common name: UNS N04405，Monel R405，Alloy R405,Nickel 405,Monel 405,Alloy 405.

Monel® R405 is a solid solution nickel-copper alloy that can only be hardened by cold work. It is slightly magnetic at room temperature.  It is the free-machining grade of Monel 400. The sulfur content in the element is increased and the workability is improved. It maintains the corrosion resistance, high strength and good weldability of Monel 400, but the mechanical properties are slightly different, and it is mainly recommended for screw machines. The manufacturing, pickling and heat treatment processes of Monel R-405 are the same as those of alloy 400 and are not recommended for forging. The alloy has poor corrosion resistance in oxidizing environments and cannot be used for oxidizing acids, such as nitric acid and nitrous acid, but it is resistant to sea water and steam at high temperatures, as well as salt, caustic solutions, alkali and sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and hydrogen Corrosion of fluoric acid. It has good corrosion resistance in reducing environments. MONEL R405 is widely used in chemical, petroleum and marine industries.
